SPC Holds Event for March Safety Inspection Day

SPC announced on March 6 that it would hold a joint labor-management safety inspection and labor-management meeting to mark its “March Safety Inspection Day”.
In efforts to consolidate its commitment to safety management and build a safety management system through labor-management cooperation, SPC holds events for safety inspection day on a monthly basis at each business site of its affiliates such as Paris Croissant, SPC Samlip, BR Korea, SPC GFS, and SPL.
This month, joint safety inspections by labor and management, activities to spread the commitment to safety management and safety training, and labor-management meetings will be held sequentially starting from March 3 at the group’s 29 production facilities and distribution centers across the country.
SPC is also dedicating itself to strengthening safety management and promoting labor-management communication.
At the end of last month, SPL, one of the affiliates of SPC, held an ad-hoc labor-management council meeting with the attendance of ‘SPL Labor Union’ under the Federation of Korean Trade Unions and ‘SPL Branch’ of the Chemicals and Fiber Labor Union under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, elaborated on changes to the newly-installed sandwich lines, investment size, etc. and initiated the operation of the sandwich lines after having consultations between the two unions.
The installation and operation of the new sandwich lines came from the labor union’s continued requests to the company in a situation where the production lines were suspended due to an accident last October and existing employees at the lines had difficulties adjusting to changes in their jobs. After removing the existing lines, SPL established new lines at a different location, obtained approval from the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency on February 21, 2023, and HACCP certification on the 23rd of the same month, and started operating the new lines on February 24 based on labor-management discussions.
In relation to these changes, Yoon Hong-sik, head of the SPL union, said, “The company has installed new lines and provided rest areas in response to our requests and suggestions. I would like to express my gratitude to the company for taking such active measures.”
An official from SPC said, “SPC will carry out diverse activities to build a safer and healthier workplace and continue efforts to facilitate communication between labor and management.”
Meanwhile, SPC held a safety management proclamation ceremony last January, and announced its vision and strategy for safety management to create a ‘safe and happy working environment’ by realizing an accident-free workplace, creating a respectful and considerate working environment and establishing a trusted safety management culture, etc. Through these efforts, the group plans to elevate its safety management system a notch higher and foster a culture of respect and consideration for employees, transforming itself into a ‘New SPC’.
