A quiz event where the pure passion of children stood out

Prior to the start of the Children’s Cake Class, an ice-breaking session was held in which all the participants gathered in the lecture hall of the College of Food Science on the 4th floor to solve various quizzes and get to know each other. Despite the fact that receiving help from parents was against the rules, the children surprised adults by guessing the year of SPC’s founding and even the hidden meaning behind the logo. Participants who answered the quiz correctly were presented with a surprise gift, giving them unforgettable memories.

The only cake in the world made by children who participated in the Children’s Cake Class

Even the playful children took on the complicated icing process with sincerity. They were careful when choosing the toppings to decorate the cake. The children already looked like pâtissiers making their cakes while imagining the cakes of their choice. The cakes with extraordinary visuals that reflected the children’s innocence made the viewers smile.

We met Manager Jaesik Kwon of the SPC GFS Labor Team who participated in the Children’s Cake Class and heard his impressions.

Manager Jaesik Kwon and with his child who participated in the Children’s Cake Class

Q. Please introduce yourself.
Hello, I am Jaesik Kwon, Manager at SPC GFS Labor Team.

Q. What motivated you to participate in the cake class?
I applied after hearing the news that the company was holding a family invitation event post Covid. I think experiential activities are of even greater importance when kids are still young. I usually participate in programs with my child, where we can see and touch things with our hands, such as an insect museum or cooking experience, so I applied as soon as I heard that the company was conducting a cake class.

Q. What did you look forward to the most while participating in the cake class?
I was excited to be able to show my family where I work. I thought it would be a good opportunity to let my kids know what I do in the company, by making a cake that was otherwise only bought for eating. Seeing the kids excited about making cakes since yesterday made me look forward to it as well.

Q. What part did your child enjoy the most while making the cake??
My child enjoyed putting fruit and chocolate toppings on the whipped cream sheet the most. To a child, the white whipped cream looks like paper, so it seemed like it was a lot of fun to decorate it colorfully. A variety of fruits was also prepared, so it was great that my child could taste each one and choose the ingredients.

Q. What was the most memorable moment of today’s event?
The time given was ample, so my family completed 3 cakes. I remember the moment when my child offered to share the cake he had made with his friends. It was nice to know that he knew how to share with his friends.

Q. Besides the cake class, what experiences or activities would you like to experience with your child at SPC?
It would be nice to experience bread, cookies, and ice cream making, which are not complicated processes. I think it will be a good experience for children as they can see and touch the ingredients themselves and tactile play together.

In addition, executives and employees who participated in the Children’s Cake Class expressed their feelings, saying, “It boosted my loyalty to the company” and “I am happy to be able to present good memories to my children.” SPC is planning a number of activities for employees and their families to do together in the second half of the year. Please keep an eye on SPC as it strives to create a family-friendly corporate culture.

As soon as the SPC Group Cup started, an event to predict the winning team was planned, so that all executives and employees could participate in corporate cultural activities. Employees competed fairly with the colleagues they worked with, forming strong ties inside and outside the company. One participant said, “Due to COVID, I haven’t had a chance to do sports with my colleagues and have fun together, but I made happy memories by participating in this competition.” “I think it is a healthy corporate culture that the game was played during work hours and did not affect my personal life. My team manager also told me to enjoy the event and be safe”. Employees who became one through sports expressed their will to actively participate in creating a more active and positive corporate culture.

In SNL Knowledge Live Show, Professor Hyun-joon Yoo explained the meaning of space to mankind under the theme of his book “The Future of Space”. This special lecture was also a time to look at the evolution of spaces from the past to the present and think about what kind of spaces you want to live in, in the future. Employees who participated in the lecture said, “We learned that humans are unconsciously influenced by the shape of a space, and we want to apply what we learned today in real life. It was a good time to think about the space of the future, beyond the past and present.”
