SPC Samlip Adopts Green-certified Flexographic Printing, Packaging Technique to Expand Eco-friendly Management

SPC Samlip announced on the 9th that it will seek the expansion of eco-friendly management by adopting Green-certified flexographic printing, a packaging technique to its key bakery and food products.
SPC Samlip has applied an eco-friendly packaging material manufacturing technology that was awarded with the Green Certification to approximately 1,600 items including Pokemon Bread, Sanrio Bread and Samlip Hopang. The technology keeps sharpness of colors without the use of such substances as methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and toluene. SPC Samlip plans to continuously expand the application of the eco-friendly packaging to all products.
SPC Samlip also applied eco-friendly packaging materials using the eco-friendly flexographic printing technique to Samlip Hopang and Mini Yakgwa Cookies. Unlike conventional gravure printing, flexo printing uses safe water-based inks through embossed printing, saving more than 40% of ink usage compared to conventional printing, and reducing the usage of about 45 tons of ink and harmful organic solvents per year. So far, this printing technique has been applied to around 140 items, and the company plans to increase the application rate to over 50% within the year.
In addition, SPC Samlip is introducing other eco-friendly methods to reduce plastic consumption, such as to remove trays from product packaging and use PCR (post-consumer recycled resin) film and paper materials.
“We will actively introduce new technologies by promoting the manufacturing of eco-friendly product and upcycling product during the second half of this year,” said an SPC Samlip official. “Moving forward, we will expand eco-friendly management by making various efforts including establishment of a waste management system and transformation of byproducts from production process to resources.”
